How NOT to hire a hygienist

While many of our clients are, in fact, having success hiring hygienists, they are still in short supply. It’s always fun to share ideas with Kirk and, in this podcast, I share some of the Don’ts you’ll want to avoid when hiring.

A few takeaways are:

  • What NOT to do when writing an ad
  • What you should NOT leave out when you’re trying to attract hygienists
  • What benefits we do NOT recommend offering

What is your ultimate goal for tracking tasks?

Often dentists identify a behavior they’d like to see improve in their team and they want to track it. For example, increasing the number of intraoral photos.

But is it really worth tracking an activity if there’s no end result attached to it?

This week’s video gives you a couple of solid points to communicate to your team when asking them to track a particular task.

Power brush chairside trial

Dr. Pamela Maragliano-Muniz and Rachel discuss the importance of making authentic connections with patients, which will lead to trust and increased case acceptance.

Watch as Rachel introduces the new Chairside Trial program that allows patients to try the Philips Sonicare power brush during their appointment.

What a great opportunity for us as dental professionals to educate our patients on the benefits of a power brush before making the decision to purchase it for themselves!

Can you spot heart disease with a glance?

I am always preaching that stepping into the role of healthcare provider is critical for dentistry to be seen as essential by our patients and colleagues in medicine.

At Inspired Hygiene, we help hygienists learn critical thinking skills that allow them to practice at a higher, more comprehensive level as a healthcare provider.

Today’s video and the article linked below it are resources to build on our ability to impact our patients overall health and help identify potentially dangerous health conditions our patients may not be aware of.

Remember, YOU are a healthcare provider.

Change isn’t easy…

Change isn’t easy. Even when it’s eagerly anticipated change like a marriage, graduation or birth of a child, there are some hard moments and it takes us out of our comfort zones.

It’s not unusual for teams to be a tad nervous when their leader shares they’re considering working with a practice coach. So I decided to create a short video to help leaders communicate positively with their team and help calm the nerves that sometimes accompany this positive change.

Whatever kind of CE, coaching, consulting you’re considering bringing into your practice, this video will give you a couple of ‘pearls’ to ensure the project starts on a positive note.

Hygiene Scheduling-think about these 2 things

If you’re like most of the teams we work with, your hygiene schedule is packed. And it’s most likely packed with delayed prophy and perio maintenance visits.

In this short video, I’d like to remind you of a couple of things to keep an eye on that will help you maintain strong hygiene production next week, next month and into next year.

Let’s stop the division

I hope you, your family and team remain well.  We are beginning to see dentistry begin to open up and this is creating all kinds of mixed emotions…relief and excitement, as well as fear and confusion. Where some are coming together in unity, others, unfortunately, are seeing the divide between dentists and hygienists get wider.

Whether you are a hygienist, dentist, assistant or administrator, you have a decision to make. You must decide whether you want to work together as a team to serve patients safely or decide to allow fear to divide you and damage the relationships you’ve worked so hard to build. Our patients need us and we need each other.

We made this video in hopes of inspiring some meaningful, positive communication between dentists and their teams. The key word here is communication. Stay in touch with each other. Talk respectfully about your plan for reopening. Listen, offer help.  Even if you don’t have all the answers, I know you can figure it out together. Inspired Hygiene and the entire dental educator community is here to help.

Another Way Hygiene Brings Value to Your Practice

I recently did a series of videos with my friends at Tusk Partners. Tusk is an advisory firm that helps single and multi-location group practices strategically grow and improve. They are a great resource for learning about the DSO market and how it’s impacting dentistry.

In this video, Kevin Cumbus and I talk about how the hygiene department impacts the value of a practice and a point of value that you may not have thought of before.

I’m always happy to chat with you and analyze your hygiene department to see where you might have room to grow.
